Combo I & Combo II – These courses are designed for beginning dancers ages 3 & 4. There is an emphasis on body awareness, musical rhythm, imagination and basic coordination. Combo classes focus on teaching young children the basic elements of dance. To give them a feel for dance, we introduce basic tap, ballet and jazz moves for a half hour. Then they get to move to the gym room where they will learn some tumbling basics including forward rolls, straddle rolls, mini cart-wheels and low balance beam work. Combo dancers will perform at the recital.

Acro-Dance – Dancers will learn to use tumbling skills to enhance their dance routines. Some acro routines use a lyrical jazz as others use a normal contemporary jazz style. Most junior acro-dance are musical theater/character routines while the seniors are more technical.

Cheerleading Prep – This class concentrates on preparing students for local school cheerleading tryouts. Motions, jumps, building and cheers will be covered during the prep class. We recommend all students take an additional tumbling class to better their chances with school cheerleading tryouts. A specific routine is not taught in this class.

Pom Pon – The class concentrates on preparing students for local school pom pon tryouts. Motions, jumps, spins, leaps and some building will be covered during the pom class. Routines will be learned through out the session to be performed at the recital in the Spring.

Tumbling – Our tumbling classes focus primarily on tumbling and floor routines. Students are placed in beginning, intermediate or advance classes depending upon age and ability and advance at their own pace. Emphasis is placed on proper form and execution. With the exception of a low beam, traditional gymnastic equipment are not used. Gymnastic skills acquired at One Step Above are most often used for cheerleading and pom pon.

Lyrical/Modern – Dancers will explore traditional ballet techniques along with awareness, energy and focus. They will learn to create powerful story through movement, technical motion and stage presence.
